The prize competition hosted on LymeXDiagnosticsPrize.com is being managed by Luminary Labs, L.L.C. (“Luminary Labs”). Phase 1 and Phase 2 were managed under contract with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (“NASA”) for the Department of Health and Human Services (“HHS”) (NOIS2-045). Phases 3 and 4 of the competition are supported by the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation through a fiscal sponsorship with Digital Harbor Foundation.  LymeX is a public-private partnership between HHS and the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation.

LymeXDiagnosticsPrize.com (referred to as the “website,” “challenge website”, or “site”) is organized and hosted by Luminary Labs. This is not a government website and HHS Privacy Policy does not apply to this site.

LymeXDiagnosticsPrize.com, including the services provided through this website, are properties of Luminary Labs. Therefore, throughout this Privacy Policy the words “we,” “us,” “our,” and the “Organizer” refer to Luminary Labs.

Any individual or team that submits an entry to the LymeX Diagnostics Prize (“the competition”) will collectively be referred to as “you,” “team,” “your,” “your team,” or “entrant,” throughout this Privacy Policy. All entry information and submissions, including team and submission details, shall be collectively referred to herein as the “submissions” or each as a “submission.”

The competition website is not directed at children, and Luminary Labs, HHS, and the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation do not knowingly collect any information from individuals under the age of 13. Additionally, you must be 18 years of age or older to enter the competition.

Information collected

HHS, the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation, and Luminary Labs may collect personal information about site visitors in order to conduct the challenge. We will not collect personally identifiable information about you unless you choose to register for the challenge or sign up for the challenge newsletter. We do not give, share, sell, or transfer any personally identifiable information to a third party.

You will be asked to provide personally identifiable information (such as your name, email address, phone number, and professional affiliations) when creating a submission to the challenge. To enter the challenge, you will also be required to submit non-personally identifiable information including, but not limited to, the name of your submission, description of your submission, images representing your submission, and answers to specific questions posed on the submission form. All submitted information is used only for the expressed purposes for which it is intended and is not made available to any third party.

If, during your visit, you only browse through the website, read pages, or download information, our website’s operating system will automatically record some general information about your visit.

During your visit, web services will record information that may include but is not limited to:

  • The internet domain for your internet service (such as “example.com” or “example.net”)
  • The type of browser that you are using (such as “Chrome version X” or “Internet Explorer version X”)
  • The type of operating system that you are using (such as Macintosh, Unix, or Windows)
  • The date and time you visit our site, and your activity on the site

Use of information

HHS, the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation, and Luminary Labs may use your personally identifiable information for the purposes of conducting the challenge and communicating with you about the challenge. HHS, the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation, and Luminary Labs will not share with other external entities information submitted to or collected by HHS, the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation, and Luminary Labs, except with the judges for the purposes of evaluating entries and nominating winners. When the winners have been confirmed, HHS, the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation,  and Luminary Labs will share the name and professional affiliations of the winners as disclosed by these entrants in the submission form. No other entrants’ personally identifiable information will be shared with the public.

HHS and the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation will not share with other external entities information submitted to or collected by HHS, the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation, or by Luminary Labs, except for with partners participating in the challenge, and publicizing the prize recipients. When the challenge winners have been confirmed, HHS and the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation will have the right to share the challenge winners’ names, affiliations (such as school, organization, or company), cities, and states of residence with the public. No other contestants’ personally identifiable information will be shared with the public

Third party sharing resulting from legal processes

As required by law, HHS, the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation, and Luminary Labs may share your information when legally compelled to do so. This may include sharing with government entities or third parties in response to subpoenas, court orders, or other legal processes. HHS, the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation, and Luminary Labs may also disclose personally identifiable information in order to protect and defend our legal rights, or defend against legal claims that have been, or may be brought against us. Additionally, HHS, the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation, and Luminary Labs may share this information in order to protect the rights, property, or safety of you or another person. In this instance, we may share your personally identifiable information with law enforcement or another entity we feel, in our judgment, may be able to protect you or the other person. Finally, should HHS, the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation, or Luminary Labs reasonably feel that any activities are unlawful we will report these activities to law enforcement.

Security of your information

Luminary Labs takes appropriate measures to secure and protect the privacy of your information. All information will be housed on the secure servers of Luminary Labs’ data storage provider. These servers are protected with generally available security technologies, including firewalls and data encryption. However, as no method of storing data is completely secure, we cannot guarantee that your information will never be accessed or used in a manner that is inconsistent with this Privacy Policy. As a contractor to NASA and the Digital Harbor Foundation, and supporting HHS and the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation, Luminary Labs will share information with HHS, the Digital Harbor Foundation, and the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation. All such information will be housed on secured government systems that comply with federal information management policies.
